Tension Within

Tension Within

Tension Within visualizes the visceral experience of stomach pain through form, texture, and structure. The ceramic sculpture splits open like a hinged vessel, one side smooth and unassuming, the other revealing a chaotic interior of coils, knots, and sponge-like protrusions. At its core is a central knot representing the physical and emotional tightness of chronic discomfort. Created from SB Red clay and soda-fired for added surface tension, the piece reflects internalized distress and how pain can be hidden beneath the surface. Tension Within invites viewers to confront the quiet, unseen experiences of suffering that reside deep in the body.
